if you need a 1 CD avi file (-usesbr 2 or -usesbr 700) and the video must have the original resolution,  use -encode 3:2:2 if you care about speed or -encode 3:4:2 if you care more about quality. This is not the best choice for a satisfactory PSNR. It is better to scale the video. See below.

reducing the resolution of the video increases the PSNR and reduces the processing time necessary, especially for -encode 3:4:2. The optimum combination is -encode 3:4:2 -setaspect 4 (-encode 3:2:2 -setaspect 4 is faster).
